Previously we’ve talked about some of the amenities that we include in our homes, from home gyms to home offices, and outdoor amenities like outdoor fireplaces and kitchens. But what about amenities for smaller guests? In this blog we will share some of the kid-friendly features we have included in our projects to make play time and family time more enjoyable and special.
Kid-Friendly Features in Custom Homes
People do not always associate luxury homes with child-friendly spaces, but these two design goals can both be met with the right kind of planning. Imagine creating a space that’s both comfy and cool for kids. We have! Here are some some of the highlights of work we have done:
Built-In Bunk Beds: Sleepover Central
Bunk beds are a childhood staple, but we’ve gone far beyond the basics of two-level sleeping and created custom-built bunk beds that make sleeping, or just hanging out, an adventure. These beds function like mini fortresses – they’re tough enough for kids to climb, play, and dream in them. In bedrooms like these it’s like a sleepover party waiting to happen every night!
Storage Galore: A Place for Everything
Kids come with stuff. Lots of it. If it’s left out, it can create a mess or even a safety hazard. In a high-end home, built-in storage is a must. Think sleek shelves and drawers that blend seamlessly into the room. We’ve built them! This is the perfect way to keep things tidy while still being able to showcase your kids’ favorite toys and books.
Kid-Friendly Bathrooms: Double the Sinks, Double the Fun
Why have one sink when you can have two – or three? In a luxury home, bathrooms can be a blast for kids. Multiple sinks mean no more fighting over who brushes their teeth first. Plus, add some fun tiles or cool lights to make it a space they’ll love.
Play Space: Room to Romp
Kids need room to play! How about adding a dedicated play area just for them? From adding a simple playroom to building a mini theater for them to watch their favorite shows in, if you can dream it, we can build it. It’s all about creating a space that sparks their imagination.
A Separate Wing: Peace for Parents
Last but not least, we’ve also built separate wings for the kiddos into our custom homes. This allows parents and grandparents to get their quiet time while the kids have their fun. It’s like camping at the lake, but way more comfortable and convenient. Your smaller guests will love having space that’s designed just for them, where every night feels like an adventure.

It’s all about designing and building kid-friendly features into spaces that are fun, functional, and fantastic for the whole family. Many of our client families enjoy getting creative with these spaces and have fun with their design. They build on the theme of the home or take it in a playful direction like a camp or lodge or the nautical theme shown here. This is a great way to infuse their home with their family’s personality.
